Without Excuse

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
-Romans 1:20

Lately, I have just been enthralled by creation. Look around at all that surrounds you! The colors that paint the world, the details that make even the simplest things possible, every living thing that walks the earth. The universe, especially our earth and the galaxy it is in, is fine-tuned specifically for life. It all points to a Creator! What are the chances that any of this could happen by accident?

It's easy to doubt God's existence. Out of sight, out of mind. We can't see him, so we pay minimal attention to him. The less we think about him, the easier it is to convince ourselves that he isn't real. The fact of the matter is you can deny God's existence however, you cannot disprove it. The entire universe is proof of the Father.

Did you know:

  • If the crust of the earth had been 10 feet thicker, there would be no oxygen and animal life would cease to exist.
  • The human body contains about 200 different types of cells, each responsible for a specific function.

  • The odds of someone having the exact same DNA as you are 6 billion to one (unless they're identical twins).
  • If transcribed into English, the DNA in the human genome would fill a 300-volume set of encyclopedias of approximately 2000 pages each.
  • The Sun gives off more energy in a single second than mankind has produced cumulatively since their existence.
  • As the Earth moves in its orbit around the Sun, it departs from a straight line by only one-ninth of an inch every 18 miles. If it departed by one-eight of an inch, we would come so close to the Sun that we would be incinerated; if it departed by one-tenth of an inch, we would find ourselves so far from the Sun that we would freeze to death.
  • The brain has been estimated to contain 100 billion neurons, each a living unit within itself. While most neurons share similar properties, they can be classified into “perhaps as many as 10,000 different types." Additionally, over 100 trillion electrical connections are estimated to be present throughout the human brain, which has been said to be more than “all the electrical connections in all the electrical appliances in the world.”
  • If the DNA from a single human cell were removed from the nucleus and unraveled (it is found in the cell in a spiral configuration), it would be approximately six feet long, and would contain over a billion biochemical steps. It has been estimated that if all the DNA in an adult human were placed end-to-end, it would reach to the Sun and back (186 million miles) 400 times.
  • There are an estimated one billion galaxies in the Universe, and an estimated 25 sextillion stars.
  • If all the cells of the human body were set end to end, they would encircle the Earth over 200 times.

Richard Dawkins once remarked: “The more statistically improbable a thing is, the less we can believe that it just happened by blind chance. Superficially, the obvious alternative to chance is an intelligent Designer."Harold Marowitz, an atheist physicist, created mathematical models by imagining broths of living bacteria that were superheated until all the complex chemicals were broken down into basic building blocks. After cooling the mixtures, Marowitz used physics calculations to conclude that the odds of a single bacterium reassembling by chance is one in 10100,000,000,000. Mathematicians tell us that any event with an improbability greater than one chance in 1050 is in the realm of metaphysics -- i.e. a miracle ( The universe happening by chance is not possible according to mathematics.

As Romans 1:20 says, we are certainly without excuse. Everything screams creation to us. There is no other reasonable explanation for the existence of everything other than that it had a Designer.

Look around you. Soak it in. The One who formed everything that surrounds you has plans for you and He wants you back.

What amazes you the most? Where do you see God in the universe?
